Malta’s Standing Committee on Foreign and European Affairs met on 6 October to discuss the proposed revision of the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS) and its potential impact on Malta and the business sector.
The committee heard from the Malta Business Bureau, Malta Maritime Forum and Association of Tractor and Trailer Operators about the possible effects on Malta’s competitiveness and the maritime, transport and aviation sectors.
The discussion also examined challenges and opportunities for Maltese businesses under the proposed changes.
The meeting was chaired by committee president John Grech, with Foreign and European Affairs Minister Chris Fearne and several MPs attending. MEPs Thomas Bajada and Peter Agius participated online.
