A clear commitment to continue to deliver on the Government’s vision for social housing

The Government remains determined to bring to completion the social housing project in Wied Ħesri, Siġġiewi, which when completed will provide 189 residential units and 167 parking spaces. This is one of another social housing projects in our country that will give more families the opportunity to have an adequate and dignified home.

The decision of the Housing Authority to proceed with the termination of the contract with the contractor demonstrates the seriousness with which this project is being pursued. After several warnings about the lack of progress in the works and the non-observance of contractual obligations, the Authority has taken concrete action. This is because deadlines and contractual responsibilities must be respected, and the protection of public funds remains a priority.

While at this stage the procedures applicable to public contracts must be respected, including the appeal period linked to the termination of this tender, the Housing Authority has already begun preparing the way forward for the project to be completed.

At the same time, the Government and the Authority remain open to dialogue on how this project can be improved. A meeting has already been held with the Siġġiewi Local Council, and we will continue to listen to the views of residents and surrounding communities.

The commitment remains that this Social Housing project will be brought to completion with strong governance, accountability and quality standards, while the needs of families and the community remain at the centre of our work.
