Lejla fil-Park Marks the Launch of Malta’s Sustainable Development Action Days 2026
Lejla fil-Park returned for its fifth edition at Park ta’ San Klement in Ħaż-Żabbar, marking the launch of Malta’s Sustainable Development Action Days 2026 with the theme ‘From Ideas to Impact’. Organised by the Sustainable Development Directorate, the event brought together families, voluntary organisations, sports associations, government entities, and the public for an evening promoting sustainability, community engagement, and outdoor recreation.
Visitors enjoyed a variety of educational, cultural, and interactive activities, including sports demonstrations, children’s activities, environmental awareness initiatives, and information stands showcasing sustainable practices and community services.
Minister for Energy, the Environment and the Regeneration of the Grand Harbour Miriam Dalli welcomed the continued success of the initiative and the strong public participation it attracts each year. “Lejla fil-Park continues to demonstrate how sustainability can be brought closer to the community through enjoyable and inclusive activities. By encouraging people to make use of our green spaces and learn more about sustainable living, we are fostering greater environmental awareness and strengthening our collective commitment towards a better future for all,” said Minister Dalli.
Director General for Sustainable Development, Francine Pace Caruana, highlighted the role of initiatives such as Lejla fil-Park in raising awareness of the Sustainable Development Goals and encouraging active public participation. She noted that the event reflects the theme of Malta’s Sustainable Development Action Days 2026, From Ideas to Impact, by showcasing how communities, organisations, and individuals can translate ideas into meaningful action that contributes to a more sustainable future.
Malta’s Sustainable Development Action Days 2026 forms part of the European Sustainable Development Week (ESDW), a Europe-wide initiative that promotes activities, projects, and events supporting sustainable development. Taking place between 18 September and 8 October 2026, the initiative showcases actions led by government entities, NGOs, businesses, local councils, educational institutions, and community groups across Malta and Gozo. Through a diverse programme of events, it highlights how ideas can be transformed into tangible actions that contribute to a more sustainable future.
