Minister for Gozo Clint Camilleri officially launched the Opera is Gozo 2026 programme, which for another year, during the month of October, will offer a quality spectacle while continuing to strengthen the reputation of the island of Gozo as a centre of cultural excellence.
Minister Camilleri said, “In October, Gozo celebrates its operatic tradition, welcoming audiences from Malta and abroad to enjoy performances of exceptional quality in an atmosphere that is truly unique to this island. While we enjoy this year’s programme, I encourage everyone to experience not only the Opera performances, but also the unique character, hospitality and heritage of our island. Opera is Gozo is not just a series of activities. It is a celebration of our people, our creativity and the cultural heritage that we are proud to share with the rest of the world.”
The artistic highlight of the season will be marked by two major operatic productions. On October 17, Giuseppe Verdi’s La Traviata will be staged at the Aurora Opera House, bringing to the stage one of the most beloved and moving stories in the operatic repertoire. Later in the month, on October 29 and 31, Giacomo Puccini’s Madama Butterfly will be staged at the Astra Theatre, in a production that promises to touch audiences with its emotional power and the musical beauty that has made it an opera classic.
Minister Camilleri explained that these two productions will offer memorable evenings of music and theatre, and continue to demonstrate the high artistic level with which Gozo hosts this genre so important to our cultural identity. He also expressed his appreciation to all those who contribute to the annual staging of the Opera is Gozo programme and who, through their work and dedication, continue to strengthen Gozo’s position as a cultural destination of excellence.
This year’s programme continues to reflect the richness and diversity of the Gozitan cultural calendar. In addition to operatic productions, Opera is Gozo will also include concerts, exhibitions, lectures, recitals and activities that celebrate the island’s artistic heritage, while encouraging new audiences to discover the beauty of opera.
Minister Clint Camilleri concluded by wishing all those who will attend Opera is Gozo 2026 a memorable experience.
