The return of ‘F’Casal Fornaro’, a cultural activity that will take place in the historic streets of Qormi on Friday 18th and Saturday 19th September 2026, is announced, celebrating Maltese heritage, traditions and identity.
The activity places at its heart the history of Qormi and its connection to bread and the craft of baking, while combining Maltese heritage, crafts, folklore, music and gastronomy.
Casal Fornaro will also provide a space for the community, artists, craftsmen, producers and volunteers to come together to celebrate and share the identity of Qormi with the public.
Minister for Tourism Jo Etienne Abela said that ‘F’Casal Fornaro’ is a great example of how tourism can go beyond traditional places and attractions and bring visitors closer to the heart of our communities. He continued that Qormi has a unique history and identity linked to bread, baking and traditions passed down from generation to generation, and an activity such as this provides the opportunity for this history to be lived and shared with visitors in an authentic way.
“We are continuing to strengthen a tourism model that values our identity, culture and heritage, while creating opportunities for artists, producers, businesses and local communities. In this way, tourism becomes a means to appreciate what makes us Maltese, while offering visitors memorable experiences”, concluded Minister Abela.
This year’s edition will continue to strengthen the link between culture and community, while continuing to promote cultural heritage as part of an experience that can be enjoyed by both Maltese and Gozitan families as well as foreign visitors.
This is not just an activity, but a project that brings together culture, community, tourism and the local economy, while placing Maltese identity at its core.
Minister for Arts, Culture and National Heritage Malcolm Paul Agius Galea said that initiatives such as ‘F’Casal Fornaro’ reflect the Government’s vision of making culture accessible and present at the heart of communities. “As a Government we want culture that is close to the people and that reaches our towns and villages. ‘F’Casal Fornaro’ is a beautiful example of how we can take the heritage we inherited from our predecessors and give it new life. When we invest in our traditions, crafts, artists and communities, we are investing in our identity as a people and ensuring that what makes us Maltese remains alive and relevant for generations to come,” said Minister Agius Galea.
The activity is being held with the support of VisitMalta, the Qormi Local Council, the Local Government Division, the Arts Council Malta, Festivals Malta through the Rock’N Malta scheme, as well as Ministries, public entities and various private companies.
