Father and Young Son Die in Ġnejna Bay Boat Collision

A 43-year-old man and his five-year-old son, both from San Pawl il-Baħar, died after a boat allegedly collided with their dinghy in Ġnejna Bay during the early hours of this morning.

Police said the incident occurred shortly after 1am when a boat, operated by a 43-year-old man from Rabat, is believed to have struck the small vessel.

Members of the Civil Protection Department launched a search operation and located the father and son. They were recovered from the sea and certified dead. Their bodies were later transferred to the mortuary.

The operation was coordinated by Rescue Coordination Centre Malta (RCC), which, once notified from 112, coordinated search efforts with deployed assets from AFM and CPD, recovering bodies and dinghy, handing over all to competent authorities.

Further assistance from RCC Malta is also being provided to the Malta Police Force during the ongoing investigations.
