Il-Wirja tal-Imnarja' was officially launched at Verdala Castle
In the presence of Her Excellency Myriam Spiteri Debono, President of Malta and the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Supply Anton Refalo, another edition of ‘Il-Wirja tal-Imnarja’ was officially launched at Verdala Castle.
This audio-visual exhibition, which is being organised for the fourth consecutive year, offers a look at the development of Maltese agriculture over the years through historical documents, photographs, videos and other archival material that shows the evolution of one of the most important sectors for the country.
President Myriam Spiteri Debono explained how Imnarja is the people’s feast and unites our culture, community and identity as Maltese people. She noted that this exhibition focuses on agricultural heritage and while it has been providing an opportunity to appreciate how this sector has evolved over time, it identifies current challenges and the need for commitment to address these challenges.
The President also stressed the need for more young people to approach this sector and contribute on a part-time or full-time basis. Above all, Her Excellency stressed the importance of supporting the local food supply.
Following this launch of the exhibition, the traditional Imnarja lunch was held at Verdala Castle, with its proceeds in aid of The Malta Community Chest Fund, to continue assisting all those who need its help.
