More than 3,300 internet vouchers for students

Minister for Education and Sport, Byron Camilleri

More than 3,300 students will benefit from a year of free internet through a voucher worth €300, as the Government continues to invest in education and access to internet technology so that more young people have the necessary tools to succeed in their studies.

This initiative is aimed at students eligible for the stipend who during the 2025/2026 academic year began studying for the first time at the post-secondary level, including at Junior College, Higher Secondary, MCAST and the Institute of Tourism Studies (ITS) among others. Through this scheme, students will be able to benefit from an internet service for 12 months from one of the internet service providers in the country.

The initiative forms part of the Government’s ongoing work to ensure that education remains accessible to all, while continuing to reduce the financial burden on families and facilitating students’ access to digital tools that are today essential for learning, research, communication and skills development.

The Minister for Education and Sport, Byron Camilleri, said that this scheme is a concrete example of how the Government is continuing to invest directly in students and their future.

“In an increasingly digital world, internet access is no longer a luxury but a necessity. That is why we are continuing to invest in initiatives that make a concrete difference in the lives of students and their families. We want every student to have the same opportunities to learn, develop their potential and achieve their aspirations. This scheme is a direct investment in the future of our youth and in the future of the country,” said Minister Camilleri.

The Minister added that this initiative builds on a series of other measures taken over the past few years to strengthen access to education and technology, while giving more students the opportunity to continue advancing in their studies without unnecessary obstacles.

Eligible students are those who completed their compulsory education in 2025, continued their studies at the post-secondary level and are eligible for the stipend. Students who are completing their secondary education this year will be able to benefit from the scheme next year, provided they continue their studies at the post-secondary level and are confirmed as eligible for the stipend.

This scheme was first introduced in 2021 and since then more than 9,200 students have benefited from a year of free internet. This year alone, the Government will be investing more than one million euros to continue supporting students in their educational journey.

As of  Monday 22nd June, eligible students have started receiving an email from the Student Maintenance Grants Unit to select their preferred internet service provider. Vouchers will start being distributed from mid-July and can be redeemed until 30th September 2026.
