At the Auberge de Castille, during a consultation meeting on the 2026 Budget with representatives of the Maltese Unions Forum, Prime Minister Robert Abela stressed that budget after budget has always clearly shown that this administration is committed to continuing to work hard to strengthen working conditions and social protection for all workers, both those in the public sector and those working in the private sector.
Dr Abela pointed out that collective agreements are the core of a stable relationship between workers and the administration. In this legislature, in just over three and a half years, more than 110 agreements have been signed, improving working conditions and increasing the wages of over 40,000 employees.
He pointed out that thanks to a stable and profitable economy, our country will once again have a budget without an increase in taxes. At the same time, the Government will continue to honour the social pact regarding the minimum wage, as there will be another increase in the minimum wage.
The Prime Minister stated that the Government will continue to invest in skills and training to ensure that Maltese and Gozitan workers have the best opportunities for professional advancement. This includes investment in training programmes, vocational courses, and initiatives that enhance productivity and the quality of work.
Present for this meeting were Minister Roderick Galdes, Parliamentary Secretaries Andy Ellul and Alicia Bugeja Said, as well as the Head of the Secretariat of the Office of the Prime Minister, Colonel Mark Mallia.
