A financial assistance scheme is launched in order to rent a fund in which trailers or grotesque masks are built for the Regional Carnival of Gozo 2025

The Minister for Gozo and Planning Clint Camilleri has once again launched a financial aid scheme for individuals or organizations to rent a fund in which to build trailers or grotesque masks for the Regional Carnival of Gozo 2025. The purpose of this scheme is to continue to strengthen the Carnival in Gozo as a cultural activity that attracts an audience from Gozo, Malta and abroad, and also gives an economic contribution to Gozo.

“The scheme we are launching today is testimony to our commitment to continue assisting so that the traditions and culture in our country remain alive. Through this financial aid we are helping the carnival enthusiasts to be able to find an adequate place to build the trailers and the grotesque masks with the rental costs being paid by this scheme. That way they will be able to strengthen their operation and give a long awaited show during the five days of the Carnival,” said Minister Camilleri.

The premises must be rented for a minimum period of one year, which can be extended on an annual basis. Each applicant can be given a grant up to a maximum of twenty-five thousand euros (€25,000) per year if they build the trailers and up to a maximum of ten thousand euros (€10,000) per year if they build the grotesque masks, which in both cases they will cover the rent of the premises. The scheme was opened today, the 3rd of April 2024, and will last open for one month.

The application can be made online on the website https://gozo.gov.mt/ or else it can be taken by hand to the Head Office of the Directorate for Cultural Heritage, 11 Triq it-Telħa tal Kastell, Victoria. In the website one will find attached the Guidelines and Regulations of the Scheme, including the eligibility criteria.
