Health Services Centre inaugurated in Rabat, Gozo

Health Minister Jo Etienne Abela opens new health services centre in Rabat Gozo

The Minister for Health and Active Ageing Jo Etienne Abela inaugurated a Health Services Centre in the heart of Rabat, Gozo.

It was explained how this centre, which previously served as the main primary care clinic, has now been renovated to house two podiatry clinics and a regulatory health office.

In fact, Minister Jo Etienne Abela said that today another promise is being fulfilled with the introduction in Gozo of the Office of the Standards Authority for Older Persons, OPSA, and the Office for the Superintendence of Public Health.

Dr Abela said that in Gozo, the need for podiatry services is constantly growing. He explained that in a year the Gozitan team sees over 14,000 patients. Therefore, the relocation of these clinics will improve the service offered, while creating more space for radiographic services at the Primary Care Clinic in Rabat, Gozo.

“This centre is a result of the Government’s work towards Vision 2050. Let us continue to deliver more health services closer to Gozitans. We will continue to offer the highest level of services and continue to introduce new services so that Gozitan patients continue to receive more care in Gozo itself”, concluded Dr Abela.

For his part, the Chief Executive of Primary Care Karl Farrugia said that this centre will help to ensure that out of the 14,000 Gozitan podiatry patients per year, around 5,000 people will start receiving treatment from this centre. He concluded by saying that this will help to ensure that more patients are served by the community with a more expedited service.
