At the Auberge de Castille, during a meeting with the European Commissioner for the Environment, Water Resilience and Competitive Circular Economy, Jessika Roswall, Prime Minister Robert Abela stated that Malta faces challenges such as water scarcity, limited space and insularity – challenges that impact the way we live, and sustain our services.

Referring to the Malta 2050 Vision, the Prime Minister stressed that this reality facing our country led to the construction of a long-term plan – a plan that looks at sustainability in its practicality, and where environmental protection, water security, the circular economy, and the efficient use of resources are considered essential in order to continue to strengthen the quality of life, resilience and competitiveness of our country.

The Prime Minister mentioned how despite the scarcity of water, our country has invested in a strong water system, along with the New Water program which is supporting farmers.

Dr Abela reiterated that our country is continuing to strengthen the circular economy, including through waste separation, the deposit refund scheme for beverage containers , investment in facilities such as EcoHive and increased public awareness.

Also present at the meeting were the Minister for the Environment, Energy and Public Cleanliness Miriam Dalli and the Prime Minister’s Advisor on European Affairs, Leandro Borg.
