Public property in Qrendi granted on a temporary lease to the Lourdes Philharmonic Society

Culture Minister Owen Bonnici with Lourdes Philharmonic Society

Public property under the responsibility of the Lands Authority has been transferred under a temporary emphyteusis title for fifty years to the Madonna ta’ Lourdes Philharmonic Society of Qrendi to be used as warehouses where they can store the equipment related to the feast which is celebrated every year in the same locality. This site is located in Triq Nazzareno Mifsud corner with Triq Guzeppi D’Arena in Qrendi.

This transfer will strengthen the voluntary work of the society and provide adequate space for the storage of the festival equipment and materials. In this way, the Government is continuing to support the holding of the Maltese festivals, which have also achieved UNESCO Intangible Heritage recognition.

Minister for Culture, Lands and Local Government Owen Bonnici said that this project is another significant step among the many that have already been taken to protect what makes our country unique, namely our cultural traditions which are an integral part of the Maltese identity.

Minister Bonnici stressed that through such investments, the Government is providing concrete support to musical societies so that they can continue to carry out their work in a more organised and sustainable manner. He added that when we support these organisations, we are investing in our cultural heritage and ensuring that these traditions remain strong.

The transfer was signed by the Chief Executive of the Lands Authority Robert Vella and Gordon Sacco in his capacity as Secretary.
