During the inauguration of the Verdala Wellness Hotel AX Privilege in Rabat Malta, Prime Minister Robert Abela stressed that Malta is increasingly establishing a tourism product that is giving us the opportunity to move increasingly towards quality tourism.

Accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism Ian Borg, Prime Minister Robert Abela noted how the inauguration of this hotel investment is taking place in a context where the Maltese tourism sector is continuing to show sustainable growth. This is because our country is not only registering very positive tourism results in the summer months, but is also registering good results during the rest of the seasons. The Prime Minister mentioned how by last September, the increase in the number of tourists who visited our country had risen to 12% over the same period of the previous year. More importantly, tourist expenditure in our country in the first nine months of the year reached three billion euros, almost 20% more than a year ago.

He added that the prospects for the coming years are encouraging, driven also by the strengthening of connectivity and new routes, including direct flights from the United States from next year. The Prime Minister noted that the expansion of connectivity is giving us the opportunity to reach new markets and attract quality tourists, while continuing to strengthen Malta’s position as a leading destination in the Mediterranean.

Prime Minister Robert Abela stressed that the Government is pursuing a strategy that focuses on quality tourism rather than quantity. This direction is reflected in the Malta 2050 Vision, a vision that looks towards sustainable growth and towards a tourism model that contributes more strongly to the economy and the ever-improving quality of life of the Maltese and Gozitans. Dr Abela also noted how this investment by the AX Group is continuing to make a concrete contribution to the development of the Maltese tourism product and to the shift towards a destination that focuses on quality and added value. The AX Group project consists of high-end residences and a hotel that offers a distinctive experience for adults.
