Following back-to-back wins over Luxembourg in February, the Malta women’s national team defeated Estonia 2-1 in a friendly match at the Sportland Arena in Tallinn on Thursday.
Haley Bugeja put Malta ahead on the 73rd minute when she rounded a defender before beating the Estonia goalkeeper with a low shot in the right corner from just outside the area.
The hosts equalised courtesy of a fine volley by Liisa Merisalu from the right two minutes from time which gave goalkeeper Janice Xuereb no chance.
However, one minute later, Malta regained the lead thanks to Maria Farrugia whose fine curling shot saw the ball end in the top left corner.
