The Ministry for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Supply and the Centre International de Hautes Études Agronomiques Méditerranéennes (CIHEAM Bari) have signed a new agreement that strengthens and extends the strategic collaboration between the two entities after five years of success and tangible results. The agreement was signed by the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Supply Anton Refalo and the Director of CIHEAM Bari Biagio Di Terlizzi.

This new agreement builds on a strong relationship that over the past few years has led to a number of initiatives that have had a positive impact on the Maltese agricultural sector. Through this collaboration, several people in the sector have benefited from training programmes, specialised courses and training opportunities in Italy, while technical assistance and strategic support have been provided in areas of national importance for the development of agriculture.

During the period covered by the previous agreement, the collaboration between Malta and CIHEAM Bari contributed to strengthening the professional capacity of farmers, building technical knowledge among sector operators and supporting the development of initiatives and services related to sustainable agriculture.

Through this new agreement, Malta will continue to benefit from the vast experience and international networks of CIHEAM Bari, while having access to advanced scientific knowledge, the latest developments in agricultural technologies and new opportunities for knowledge exchange and research dissemination.

Minister Anton Refalo stated that the extension of this agreement confirms the common commitment to continue strengthening relations between the two entities and to explore new opportunities for collaboration for the benefit of the Maltese agricultural sector. He reiterated that this partnership is growing year on year and is a testament to the mutual trust and value that both sides find in working together.

“The collaboration with CIHEAM Bari represents a long-term investment in building the capacity of the sector and in the competitiveness of Maltese agriculture. In a context where the sector is facing new realities related to climate change, natural resource management and the need for continuous innovation, the partnership with an institution of international repute such as CIHEAM Bari is of strategic importance,” stated Minister Refalo.

This new agreement confirms the willingness of Malta and CIHEAM Bari to continue working together to support a more innovative, sustainable and resilient agriculture, while providing new learning, training and development opportunities for the Maltese agricultural community.
