The Malta Police Union welcomes the newly announced improvements to the incentives for police officers who choose to remain in the Force.
The new measures provide that:
• Officers who remain in the Force for an additional four years will see their pension increase from 23% to 29%.
• Officers who continue serving beyond the additional four years can now benefit from a yearly lump-sum payment for up to six years, compared to the previous limit of four years.
The Union welcomes these improvements, which provide greater recognition and incentives for officers to remain in the Force.
The Union had also proposed that the pension increase during the first four additional years should be incremental, with the percentage increasing each year, in order to make the scheme more attractive to officers.
Furthermore, the Union had proposed stronger safeguards for pension entitlement once 25 years of service have been completed.
