At least eight people have died after a passenger ferry with over 250 people on board capsized off the coast of northern Cyprus.

18 people are still missing.

The ferry had left the Cypriot port of Kyrenia on its way to the port of Tasucu in Turkey when it is believed to have started taking on water.

Authorities have arrested the captain and crew.

Search and rescue operations are continuing.
