Strategic plan for the efficient and timely delivery of infrastructure investment
Minister for Infrastructure, Planning and Employment Jonathan Attard, together with the Permanent Secretary within the Ministry Ronald Mizzi, visited the offices of Infrastructure Malta, where they were welcomed by Chief Executive Officer Steve Ellul and Chief Operations Officer Perit Janice Borg.
As part of the update provided during the visit, it was explained that Infrastructure Malta currently has more than 100 infrastructure projects at various stages of implementation, ranging from planning and design to projects that are currently being implemented or nearing completion.
These projects cover a wide range of areas and interventions across Malta, including road and connectivity works, major infrastructure projects, public spaces, maritime infrastructure and other interventions that respond to the country’s evolving needs.
Minister Attard said: “My commitment in these sectors is to continue investing further in human resources so that we can continue providing the necessary tools to improve the services offered to citizens. Infrastructure Malta certainly has a crucial and central role when it comes to the Government’s program of work, which envisages various infrastructure projects aimed at continuing to improve the quality of life of our people and responding not only to today’s needs but also to those of the future.”
The volume and diversity of the projects reflect the scale of the work being carried out by Infrastructure Malta and the need for continuous coordination between technical, operational and administrative teams to ensure that public investment is delivered efficiently, sustainably and on time.
During the discussions, it was also emphasized that the entity is continuing to strengthen its capacity to manage this project pipeline through enhanced strategic planning, internal coordination, progress monitoring and project governance. This is intended to lead to a more efficient process, from the identification of the need for an infrastructure intervention through to its delivery to communities.
Minister Attard welcomed this work and emphasized the importance of continuing to plan infrastructure investment with a long-term vision, while maximizing available resources and reducing delays and inconvenience for the public.
For his part, Chief Executive Officer Steve Ellul provided an overview of the work being carried out by the entity and thanked employees for their professionalism. He reiterated Infrastructure Malta’s commitment to continuing to fulfill its mission through strategic planning, good governance and operational excellence, enabling the country to move to the next level in this area.
During the visit, the Minister and Permanent Secretary met with employees and heads of various departments forming part of Infrastructure Malta’s operations. Among others, they visited the Procurement, Human Resources, Internal Audit, External Projects, Information Technology, Roadworks, Land and Quantity Surveying, Maritime, Expropriations, Major Projects, Customer Relations, Coordination and Maintenance, Finance, Communications and Legal departments.
