Champions Floriana defeated newly-promoted Birzebbuga St. Peter’s 3-0 in the opening match from the VBET Malta Premier Opening Round league phase at the Centenary Stadium on Friday.
Paul Mbong scored from the penalty spot on the half hour to put Floriana in front, Tomislav Gudelj doubled their lead eight minutes later
A penalty on the half hour paved the way for Floriana who scored another two goals, missing another penalty. It was three nil on the hour when Myles Beerman fired home from a tight angle.
Floriana missed the chance to add to their score when Fede Varela missed a penalty after Mbong was floored in the box.
Solid win for the defending champions.
