The Armed Forces of Malta (AFM) conducted a medical evacuation on Wednesday evening after a crew member aboard an oil tanker sustained a hand injury while the vessel was sailing more than 100 nautical miles east of Malta.

The operation was coordinated by the Rescue Coordination Centre Malta (RCC Malta), which dispatched an AFM helicopter to the vessel’s location.

Upon reaching the tanker, the helicopter crew carried out a winching operation to safely evacuate the injured crew member. He was subsequently transported to Malta, where he was handed over to medical personnel at Mater Dei Hospital for further treatment.
