Minister for Gozo Clint Camilleri addressed the graduation ceremony of 68 Medicine students from Queen Mary University of London, which took place in Cathedral Square, in Rabat, Gozo.
During his speech, Minister Camilleri stated that “today we are celebrating not only the academic achievement of the new graduates, but also the beginning of a vocation built on service to people. Every investment we are making in the Gozo General Hospital has one goal: to offer the highest level of healthcare to patients, while building an environment where health professionals and future generations of doctors can learn, develop and excel. The partnership with Queen Mary University of London continues to strengthen our vision of Gozo being a centre of excellence in healthcare and medical education.”
While congratulating the graduates on their achievement and saying that this graduation marks the beginning of a career dedicated to the care and service of patients, he mentioned how the Gozo General Hospital is continuing to strengthen itself as a centre of excellence, where healthcare and medical training go hand in hand.

The Minister mentioned the investments made at the Hospital, including the strengthening of the Cardio-Respiratory Unit, the opening of the Early Pregnancy Room and investment in modern diagnostic technology, including an MRI scanner, a new CT scanner, advanced cardiac imaging equipment, additional ultrasound machines and a bone density scanner. He explained that these investments are leading to faster diagnosis, more efficient treatment and less need for Gozitan patients to travel to Malta.
He also spoke about the projects currently underway, including the expansion of the Outpatients Department, a new Women’s Health Unit, a modernized laboratory, a new Pharmacy Department with robotic technology, the improvement of the Coronary Care Unit and the Intensive Therapy Unit, as well as two new operating rooms.
Minister Clint Camilleri also emphasised the importance of the partnership with Queen Mary University of London, through which the Gozo General Hospital has become a teaching hospital, and said that this collaboration is offering benefits for both students, patients and health professionals.
He also mentioned future projects, including a new Renal Unit, a helipad, a medical service with drones and, above all, the long-term vision for the development of a new hospital for Gozo.
Minister Clint Camilleri concluded by encouraging the graduates to carry out their profession with compassion, integrity and humility, while affirming that the Government will remain committed to building a hospital in Gozo where future generations of doctors can learn and where patients receive the highest level of care with dignity and compassion.
