Prime Minister Robert Abela, together with Minister for Gozo Clint Camilleri and Minister for Tourism Jo Etienne Abela, visited three businesses run by Gozitan families in the hospitality sector which are making an important contribution towards strengthening the Gozitan economy and improving the Gozitan tourism product.
During his visit, the Prime Minister visited BLOCK Hotel and RITUAL Dive in Xlendi, a tourist complex that includes accommodation, a school and diving facilities under one roof. This business, which started in 2019, has grown into a complex that attracts tourists from all over the world, particularly those who visit Gozo for diving.
The Prime Minister also visited View Point Boutique Living, a small hotel in Xlendi that embraces Maltese and Gozitan identity as part of the experience it offers to visitors. The property has retained its local character through its design, the use of works by Maltese and Gozitan artists and elements that reflect the natural heritage of the island of Gozitan.
The last visit was to Santa Lucia Boutique Hotel, another business run by a Gozitan family that focuses on a quality experience for the guests of this hotel through the natural and tranquil environment it offers.
“Gozo has everything it needs to continue to strengthen its position as a unique destination in the Mediterranean. The fact that we are seeing more high-level investment, which reflects the identity and character of the island, shows how we can attract tourism that leaves greater value and that the Gozitan community can enjoy throughout the year”, said Prime Minister Robert Abela.
The Prime Minister stressed that families who invest in their businesses are an essential part of Gozo’s economic success. “These are families, entrepreneurs, who believe in their island, who create job opportunities and who build experiences that give Gozo a good name abroad. The Government will continue to be a shoulder to shoulder for those who have this vision and is working to continue to grow the economy in a sustainable way”, said Prime Minister Robert Abela.
Robert Abela reiterated that the Government will continue to support these investments which will continue to give new life to the Gozitan economy. This comes as the Government’s new electoral manifesto gives priority to Gozo with 100 specific commitments for the island, including measures in favour of more sustainable tourism, investment in the tourism product, specialised training and improvement of facilities.
The Government will continue to invest so that Gozo remains a quality destination, while protecting the island’s identity and unique character.
