Six local councils in Malta with projects for the benefit of urban communities

The Parliamentary Secretary for Local Government Alison Zerafa Civelli addressed a conference at the closing of the scheme for local urban councils financed by Norwegian funds. The main objective of this scheme was to continue to improve urban areas in order to improve the quality of life of residents, and people who visit and work in these locations. The investment from this scheme was around €715,000 and six local councils in Malta benefited from it.

The parliamentary secretary said that this scheme was specifically aimed at local councils considered urban, where these councils were given the opportunity to address needs and challenges in the locality with the aim of improving the quality of life of the their residents.

The six local councils that benefited from this scheme are Tarxien, Floriana, Ta’ Xbiex, Isla, Marsa and Paola. The projects carried out consist of day centers for the elderly, a library, a new electric vehicle, a garden, initiatives in favor of cleanliness in the locality and various training and learning courses.

“The projects carried out by the local councils through this scheme are a clear example of how relevant and important the work of the councils is in order to address the needs of the localities for the benefit of the communities,” she emphasized. the Parliamentary Secretary Zerafa Civelli.

The Director General for the Local Government Division Emil Vassallo, while praising the commitment of everyone involved in the implementation of these projects, stressed the importance of reflecting on the processes that led for the implementation of these projects with the aim of improving these processes and being closer to excellence.

“Although the work was demanding, when you talk to the people who today are benefiting from these projects you understand how necessary and important the work was for a better quality of life for them”, pointed out Mr. Vassallo.

Robert Tabone from the Local Government Division, praised the local councils that took the opportunity provided to them through these funds and encouraged others to follow their example in the calls that there are from time to time, co-financed by the European Union, or by other countries as in this case by Norwegian funds.
