More community projects and further aid programmes for Local Councils

More projects for the community, with another aid programme for Local Councils with a collaboration agreement between the Department of Public Works and all the Local Councils of Malta with an allocation of €10 million.

An agreement with the aim of facilitating the process for the Local Councils to carry out infrastructural works in their localities, including maintenance and emergency works, from which the residents as well as the general public will benefit. The Prime Minister Robert Abela claimed that the main principle of this framework is to address the needs of the citizens.

Before the signing of the agreement, which was also done in the presence of the Minister for National Heritage, Arts and Local Government Owen Bonnici, the Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Public Works Chris Bonett , of the Parliamentary Secretary for Public Works Omar Farrugia and of the Parliamentary Secretary for Local Government Alison Zerafa Civelli, the Prime Minister Robert Abela stressed that in the infrastructural works then there must be an emphasis on practices in favor of easy mobility which helps among others to the elderly in the community and the disabled. While he mentioned a number of beautiful projects for the communities carried out also in synergy with the Local Councils, such as the realization of open spaces and regeneration of the historical heritage, he pointed out that work is underway in favor of more cleanliness and more initiatives will be taken to in this regard we will have amazing results. He meant this agreement as one that helps the Local Councils in infrastructural projects as a link in a series of decisions in favor of a nicer environment, cleaner and more accessible localities.

The Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Public Works Chris Bonett stressed that during the last few years this Government has always been at the forefront to listen and support all the Local Councils around our country.

Equivalent words can be said for the Department of Public Works which non-stop carries out work in every corner of our country at many levels especially community ones such as maintenance works, restoration, open spaces and public buildings. “With the cooperation on the established areas, thanks to this agreement we will be sealing this good relationship and making it easier for the Local Councils to reach their goals in the most efficient way while above all improving the quality of life of the residential community, as well as of all those who visit these locations, ” said Minister Bonett.

The Parliamentary Secretary for Public Works Omar Farrugia stressed the vision with which we have a change in the mentality of how we look at planning in our localities.

“These €10 million are an opportunity for the Department of Public Works to facilitate the process for the Local Councils who will have all the tools to carry out positive changes in our localities. Tangible changes, because we believe that the future of our localities must be built by us, ” said Parliamentary Secretary Omar Farrugia.

Parliamentary Secretary for Local Government Alison Zerafa Civelli said that the work of this Government is translating into economic growth which brings other realities that are being addressed. On this point she pointed out that once again the Government has to be a shoulder for the Local Councils in order to address these challenges and carry out changes proposed by the Local Councils and their respective residents.
