Help for children of seriously ill parents

The Ministry for Social Policy and Children’s Rights has signed a new social agreement with the Karl Vella Foundation for the next three years. This foundation helps children of seriously ill parents, from psycho-social aspects. This project ‘Because You Matter’ helps children and their relatives, emotionally and provides long-term psychological assistance as these cases are often very difficult. In fact the Karl Vella Foundation helps these families, in a professional way even outside of Malta, due to the fact that they have to travel in order to receive the necessary treatment related to the disease they are going through.

These details were announced by Minister Michael Falzon, where it was said that they will be given with 780 hours of work and professional therapy every year for the next three years, and 3,120 hours of psychological and emotional analysis by counselors, psychologists and workers social. The signed agreement approves the financing of €257,400 spread over the next three years. “This Government and the Karl Vella Foundation believe that childhood is among the most important stages in the development of a person and therefore works to give the best dignity to every child together with their relatives . This is especially in situations where the children have family members who are suffering from serious illnesses, with the result that there may be less attention on the children,” stressed Minister Michael Falzon.

The Ministry for Social Policy and Children’s Rights committed to continue strengthening the funding of PSPs in the coming months, in order to continue reaching more vulnerable people. For this year the sum of €12 million was allocated, in order to guarantee the service on 35 social agreements with 25 NGOs.
