The Malta FA is pleased to announce an international appointment on Tuesday coinciding with the return of matches from UEFA club competitions.

FIFA badge referee Philip Farrugia has been appointed to officiate the UEFA Champions League 1st Leg 1st Qualifying Round match later on Tuesday between FC Urartu of Armenia and Bosnian side HŠK Zrinjski.

The match is scheduled to be played in the Armenian capital Yerevan, with kick-off penciled for 5 pm (Malta time).

For this assignment, Philip will be assisted by a full team of local match officials, namely Alan Camilleri and Luke Portelli as his Assistant Referees, whereby Alex Johnson will be tasked with the role of 4th official.

For this match like any other UEFA Champions League matches this week and albeit at this early stage of the competition, the Video Assistant Referee will be operated, with FIFA badge local match officials all well accustomed to this new concept following specialized training provided to them in recent months, in terms of use and correct decision making in football matches where the Video Assistant Referees (VAR) system is applied.
