Macedonia tough test but team will do their best: Malta coach Marcolini

‘We know that this is a tough game, actually a tough group however we will try our best’ said National Teams Head Coach Michele Marcolini during the MD-1 Press Conference held at the Toše Proeski Arena in Skopje.

On Thursday (kick-off 20:45) the Malta National Team faces North Macedonia in the first EURO 2024 qualifying match.

“I am very happy with the team’s efforts and commitment during the past days and am looking forward to start this new adventure together with them,” affirmed Mister Marcolini. This will be the first international match for Malta under Marcolini’s helm.

Michele Marcolini explained that “Malta is a small country and we will respect our opponents, however football is played on the pitch and anything can happen.”

“The players have to play, be brave and face the opponents without fear.”

The recent days had been an excellent place to continue the work started by the former NT Head Coach, Devis Mangia, and to begin to put the new coach’s tactical ideas into practice.

He emphasized that despite the fact that “this is one of the toughest groups in the European Qualifiers,” he will do whatever it takes to see Malta achieve.

Malta National Team veteran Steve Borg explained said the group has settled along well with the new coaching staff and the team’s few new members. “Although we have prepared well as a team, we are aware that every tournament is challenging. Nevertheless, we will work hard to get ready for the upcoming eight games,” explained Borg.

“We are totally focussed on tomorrow’s game against North Macedonia and will start to think about Italy once that game is over,” Steve Borg concluded.
