Minister for Tourism Clayton Bartolo launches the Mediterranean Tourism Forum

On 14 June, Malta will once again host the Mediterranean Tourism Forum, an international conference that will bring together 1,000 delegates from 28 different countries to discuss the way forward for the Mediterranean tourism sector in the light of the recent global challenges including the pandemic, the war in Ukraine, climate change, and inflation.

The theme chosen for this event, “The Mediterranean Brain”, will also address a number of new ways to strengthen regional cooperation between Mediterranean countries in the tourism sector.

The hospitality of this forum is expected to generate 800 bed nights spread over five local hotels.

These details were announced at a press conference addressed by the Minister for Tourism Clayton Bartolo in the presence of the Chief Executive of the Malta Tourism Authority Carlo Micallef, the Secretary General of the Mediterranean Tourism Forum Andrew Agius Muscat, and Cornell University Head of Innovation Jill Hillman.

The Minister for Tourism emphasized how this forum will place Malta on an international platform through which common goals can be set on the potential to make the Mediterranean a more attractive region for international visitors.

“Such events strengthen our prospects of making Malta a center of tourism excellence in the Mediterranean. As a country we must continue to work to offer the highest possible level of service to those who see the Maltese Islands as an opportunity for dialogue and an incubator of global innovation “, continued Minister Bartolo.

Chief Executive Carlo Micallef said this conference will be an important contributor to the prospects of the summer season. “The indicators are showing us that in the coming months our country will continue with the much needed recovery for the tourism sector. Conferences of this kind are crucial for Malta to continue to attract quality tourism through which the overall experience will be a positive one “, concluded Mr Micallef.
