Cabinet approved changes to include femicide in the Criminal Code

Prime Minister Robert Abela has announced that the Cabinet has approved changes to strengthen the fight against gender-based violence and to include the concept of femicide in the country’s Criminal Code.

Dr Abela said that during talks he had with civil society in recent weeks the government showed it was committed to continuing to fight more severely against horrific realities such as the rape and murder of women. This is against the background of the gruesome murder of Paulina Dembska on the 2nd of January this year.

Prime Minister Abela said that details of these changes will be given in the coming days.
