New Covid variant around the world

The new Coronavirus variant has been named Omicron as countries across the globe introduce new measures to combat its spread.

Cases have been identified in Australia, Holland, Austria, Italy, Germany and UK.

Israel which is due to host the Miss Universe contest, has banned all foreigners from entering the country.

In the UK new coronavirus restrictions have been announced after two cases of the Omicron variant were discovered.

Anyone entering the UK will have to take a PCR test and self-isolate until they get a negative result. Masks will become compulsory in shops and public transport.

Holland is introducing a number of restrictions with cafes, museums and cinemas closing at 5pm.
