Police book hundreds of drivers for traffic offences

Hundreds of drivers were booked for driving offences in the last three months of 2020, according to official figures.

Police say some 7,000 checks were carried out in the three month period with no number plates, non-functioning lights and not wearing seatbelts the most common offences.

During that period officers apprehended some 23 on drugs related offences while a number of drivers were found to be driving under the influence of alcohol.

The Commissioner of Police stressed that “these inspections will continue to take place during the days, weeks and coming months. The Police Force is committed to making our country safe in every aspect, including order and safety on our roads at all times of the day”.
