Next Attorney General to be selected by Appointments Commission

The Minister for Justice, Equality and Governance Edward Zammit Lewis announced that he has set up a Commission for the Appointment of a new Attorney General, according to the Laws of Malta.

This process, which will be one of the most transparent, will be led by Judge Emeritus Michael Mallia, with Judges Emeritus Lawrence Quintano and Antonio Mizzi as members.

Through the Office of the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Justice, Equality and Governance, the Appointing Commission will shortly publish in the Government Gazette a call for the vacancy of Advocate General.

This came after the important reform carried out in 2019, when the Government separated the powers of the offices of the State Attorney and the Attorney General. This Government has continued to strengthen the Office of the Chief Prosecutor in our country, and will continue to do so in the coming months.

Minister Edward Zammit Lewis concluded by thanking the outgoing Attorney General Dr Peter Grech for the service he rendered to the Maltese State during the ten years he served in this post.
