A new independent brewery has opened at Ta’ Qali Crafts Village following an investment of €1.5 million by Takali Brewing Company.
Prime Minister Robert Abela attended the official inauguration of the brewery, which is managed by Matthew and Francesca Buttigieg and specialises in locally produced craft beer with a distinctly Maltese identity.

The investment received support through Malta Enterprise’s Business Development Scheme, which assists businesses investing in economic activities that generate added value.
Speaking during the inauguration, Dr Abela said the project reflected the type of investment the Government wanted to attract, highlighting creativity, innovation, skills and the development of distinctive local products.
He added that the Government wanted to continue supporting entrepreneurs who had ideas and were willing to invest in turning them into reality.
Dr Abela also highlighted the significance of Ta’ Qali Crafts Village as the location for the project, saying the area should continue developing as a centre for creativity, craftsmanship and products that reflect Malta’s identity.
Takali Brewing Company is developing a range of beers, including lagers, pale ales, India pale ales (IPAs) and sour beers.
Among its products are a prickly pear beer, a lager made with lime and salt from Xwejni in Gozo, and a sour beer inspired by strawberry ice cream.
The company expects to create further quality jobs as its operations and product range expand.
Plans also include offering visitors an enhanced experience through a taproom and beer garden. The brewery is introducing sustainable practices, including reusing by-products from the brewing process and investing in a photovoltaic system.
Economy, Enterprise and Strategic Projects Minister Silvio Schembri accompanied the Prime Minister at the inauguration.
