Prime Minister and Labour Leader Robert Abela said that Malta’s progress was the result of stable leadership and unity within the Government, during a mass meeting at the Victor Tedesco Stadium in Ħamrun.
Addressing supporters, Dr Abela stated that recent European Commission forecasts confirmed that Malta continues to register strong economic performance despite international challenges.
He said Malta has the fastest growing economy in Europe, with strong public finances and high levels of job creation.
The Prime Minister drew a contrast between the Government and the Opposition, saying the Labour Party was presenting clear and costed proposals, while criticising the Nationalist Party’s proposals as unprepared and inconsistent.
Referring to transport proposals, Dr Abela claimed that the Opposition had made what he described as a “€900 million mistake” and accused it of lacking understanding of economic fundamentals such as inflation and growth forecasts.
The Prime Minister also highlighted the Government’s IVF policy, saying that free IVF treatment introduced by the Labour administration had enabled more than 1,000 couples to become parents.
He added that the Opposition had voted against the IVF measures when they were presented in Parliament.
