Gozo Developments Under Labour Government
Prime Minister and Labour Leader Robert Abela has announced a €130 million investment in new ships for the Gozo Channel, including a service dedicated solely to exporting merchandise between the islands. A “Tal linja on demand” service will also be introduced, tailored specifically for Gozo, alongside a fast ferry service connecting Sliema and Bugibba.
Connectivity will extend to the skies, with plans for an air taxi linking Malta and Gozo. Students and workers will benefit from a €800 per year sustainability transport scheme.
Abela highlighted that several proposals for Gozo were inspired by the ideas of local youth and activists, forming part of a broader set of 100 initiatives aimed at strengthening the island’s identity.
On healthcare, Abela said that patients diagnosed with cancer will no longer need to travel to Malta, as chemotherapy and immunotherapy services will be made available at Gozo General Hospital. A new robotic pharmacy will also prepare chemotherapy treatments on-site.
In education, works will begin after May 30th to build new study spaces for students, ensuring they have the necessary environment to excel.
The Prime Minister emphasized that these initiatives reflect Labour’s commitment to a dynamic, self-sufficient Gozo with improved connectivity, healthcare, and educational opportunities.
