Eurostat confirms Malta has among the lowest electricity prices in Europe
The latest electricity price statistics, published by Eurostat for the second half of 2025, confirm that Maltese households continue to benefit from electricity prices that are significantly lower than those in other European countries.
When electricity prices are measured according to Purchasing Power Standards (PPS), Malta ranks first in the European Union as the country where electricity places the lowest burden on households.
Malta is the most affordable after taking into account household income and the cost of living, compared with much higher levels in countries such as Romania and the Czech Republic, where prices are almost three times higher. This confirms that electricity prices remain among the cheapest for Maltese households.
Commenting on these statistics, the Minister for the Environment, Energy and Public Cleanliness, Miriam Dalli, said: “Price stability remains a priority for us because it gives certainty to families and businesses in their everyday lives. At a time when many European countries are facing sharp increases and instability in energy prices, Malta has managed to keep electricity prices stable. This reflects our long-term vision for energy, which focuses on protecting consumers while continuing to invest in cleaner and more sustainable energy sources.”
Eurostat data also shows that, since the beginning of 2020, several European countries have experienced significant increases in electricity prices. Malta, however, has managed to avoid these price increases, demonstrating the strength of the national energy framework and the emphasis placed on long-term planning.
These statistics once again confirm the Government’s continued commitment to protecting consumers, supporting economic activity and strengthening energy security, even in light of the geopolitical pressures on the energy market currently affecting Europe.
