
Parliamentary Secretary for Fisheries, Aquaculture and Animal Rights Alicia Bugeja Said attended the meeting of the Animal Welfare Council, which meeting continued to consolidate the work being carried out in our country to strengthen measures and initiatives in favour of animal welfare.
This meeting served as a platform where a number of initiatives currently being carried out, as well as new initiatives that aim to continue improving animal welfare, were discussed.
During the meeting, various themes related to animal protection were addressed, including the need for greater public awareness, the continued enforcement of existing regulations, and the promotion of educational initiatives that foster greater responsibility among animal owners.
The work being done through national campaigns and community activities that are bringing families and their pets together to further increase awareness about the proper care of animals was also explained, as was the scheme to increase more public spaces in localities for pets and their owners. It was also discussed how one can more effectively address situations where animals end up in degraded conditions.
Parliamentary Secretary Alicia Bugeja Said said, “This meeting continued to build on the work already being done in the area of animal welfare. We are seeing concrete progress through initiatives and measures that not only strengthen services, but also increase awareness and responsibility in our society, to ensure that animals are given the protection and care they deserve.”
“The goal remains to continue working in a coordinated manner with various stakeholders, including local councils and the community, in order to build a stronger culture of proper animal welfare,” concluded the Parliamentary Secretary.
This meeting forms part of an ongoing commitment to implement concrete measures that strengthen animal protection, while continuing to promote initiatives that encourage greater responsibility towards animals.
