Children living in Cottonera will once again have the opportunity to attend free athletics training sessions at De La Salle College this coming summer. These sessions will focus on running, jumping and other disciplines, with the aim of training and improving their athletics skills.
This was announced by the Parliamentary Secretary for Local Government, Alison Zerafa Civelli during the signing of an agreement between the Cottonera Foundation, represented by Chairperson Joe Mizzi, and the La Salle Athletics Club, represented by Tara Abdilla.
Parliamentary Secretary Alison Zerafa Civelli stated that the Cottonera Foundation is increasingly taking on a central and important role in the community life of the towns of Cospicua, Vittoriosa, Senglea and Kalkara.
“In Cottonera, the work of the local councils, which are very active, is being complemented by the work and initiatives of this foundation, which is supporting these councils. We are pleased that once again the Foundation is thinking of physical activities aimed particularly at children, so that from a young age we can foster sports discipline in our children and subsequently lead healthier lives. This foundation is being the main collaborator between these councils so that a holistic approach can be taken in everything these councils do,” said the parliamentary secretary.
The parliamentary secretary concluded by saying that this is another initiative that is testament to the importance that the Government is giving to sports and physical activity.
The Chairperson of the Cottonera Foundation, Joe Mizzi, said that this initiative is joining a series of other initiatives that this Foundation is undertaking. “Our initiatives vary from cultural, social and sporting ones with the aim of ensuring that the people of Cottonera have quality and high-level activities in Cottonera itself. This time we have gone beyond the usual activities and initiatives, and once again we are thinking of our children through a sports initiative through which we are exposing them to the world of athletics,” concluded Joe Mizzi.
Tara Abdilla, of the La Salle Athletics Club, said that they are satisfied with this initiative because they will be giving something back to the community in which they operate, namely that of Cottonera.
The sessions will be held during the months of July and August, every Tuesday and Friday between 18:30 and 20:00, at De La Salle College. The sessions will be open to those students attending primary schools in Cospicua, Senglea, Vittoriosa and Kalkara.
