Valletta will face Gzira United in the final of the Meridianbet FA Trophy after defeating Birkirkara 3-1 in the second semi-final at the National Stadium.
Two quick strikes in the last five minutes of the first half gave City a comfortable lead at the break. Andrea Zammit and Yannick Yankam finding the net for Valletta.
Jere Vrcic scored from the penalty spot just after midday through the second half to give Birkikara a foothold in the game but six minutes in added time, Valletta sealed the issue with a third goal when Brandon Paiber who slotted past Martinez.
In the days other semi-final, Gzira edged past Naxxar Lions 2-1 with the winner coming in extra time.
Vitinho put Naxxar in front inside twenty minutes with a fine shot just outside the area.
Gzira found an equalizer late in the game when Andre headed in from a Failla corner.
A penalty ten minutes into the first half of extra time gave Gzira the opportunity to go in front when Brooklyn Borg was floored inside the area by Mattias Micallef. Maxwell Samurai’s spot kick hit the crossbar and the upright before ending at the back of the net.
So, the final of the MeridianBet FA Trophy will see Gzira take on Valletta.
