Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Public Works Chris Bonett visited the Ġnien tal-Fajtata in the San Tumas area of Marsaskala where important works are currently underway by Infrastructure Malta as part of the regeneration plan in this locality. This plan includes various interventions around Marsaskala with the aim of improving and modernising the locality’s infrastructure and public spaces.
Inside the Fajtata garden, regeneration work is underway which includes the installation of new railings, paving that better complements the natural environment, improvements to public facilities including toilets, a new gym and extensive landscaping work. In addition, the garden’s retaining wall has been rebuilt to strengthen the structure with better protection from the natural elements. This work also includes new and safer walkways that provide access to this popular beach, including a new ramp.
During his visit, Minister Chris Bonett explained that the works are progressing according to plan so that by next summer, this garden and public space will be given back to the public. He explained the various works currently underway in Marsaskala including coastal protection in the Munxar area, repair and beautification work in San Tumas as well as improvements to the Marsaskala promenade. “Our priority remains to offer more beautiful and better open spaces so that families can enjoy them in their free time, while always respecting and protecting the natural environment of the area,” concluded Minister Bonett.
Infrastructure Malta’s Chief Operating Officer, Architect Janice Borg, said that the construction work is now complete and work is underway on the new paving which will be done with the Porphyry material. She explained that in the coming time, work will be done on new railings as well as landscaping to give this garden a more beautiful appearance.
