US Supreme Court rules against President Donald Trump’s global tariffs

US Supreme Court

The US Supreme Court ruled against President Donald Trump’s global tariffs on Friday, handing him a significant loss on an issue crucial to his economic agenda.

The 6-3 decision centres on tariffs imposed last year under an emergency powers law, including the sweeping “reciprocal” tariffs he levied on nearly every other country.

The US Constitution grants Congress the power to set tariffs, and those who challenged the tariffs  argued Trump exceeded his authority.

Touring a  steel facility in Georgia, President Trump told workes, “Without tariffs, this country would be in so much trouble right now.”

The US government could now face a bill running into many millions as importers try to claim back the refunds from the US Customs Agency.
