First Maltese rocket successfully launched

A team of University of Malta students, known as UM Rocketry, has successfully launched the MERILL II rocket from a dedicated launch pad in Pembroke in a historic milestone, as it is the first time a rocket has ever been successfully launched from Malta.

Jake Mifsud from UM Rocketry told Times of Malta that the resilience and strength of the engine and the model were rigorously tested in Portugal, where they had the opportunity to continue refining and modifying the model before the actual launch in Malta.

The launch took place in Maltese airspace, with strict coordination from the Armed Forces of Malta, who ensured that the rocket landed safely in the sea without posing any danger.
