For another year, the New Year’s Eve concert will be held at Dock number 1, in Cottonera. This activity has become synonymous with the beginning of a new year, as in recent years, the Cottonera Foundation has always seen to it that a high-level activity is held to bid farewell to the year that is about to end and welcome the new year.
Details about this activity were announced at a press conference addressed by the Parliamentary Secretary for Local Government Alison Zerafa Civelli and the Chairperson of the Cottonera Foundation Joe Mizzi. This year the group Kantera, and artists Matthew James and Ira Losco will be taking part, while the concert will be presented by Ray Calleja and Dorianne Mamo.
However, apart from the music, there will also be an aerial fireworks show and a drone show. Parliamentary Secretary Alison Zerafa Civelli said that this activity has now entered the cultural calendar of our country, as many people are choosing Cottonera on this night of the beginning of a new year. “The activity we are announcing today is one of the various activities that the Cottonera Foundation is preparing throughout the year, however this remains the Foundation’s biggest activity. In recent years, the potential of Cottonera has been increasingly exposed and enjoyed by all Maltese and foreigners who visit these parts. Therefore, this New Year’s Eve activity will be another opportunity to start the year against the beautiful backdrop of the bastions and fortifications, together with the music and shows prepared, which will be offering a wonderful activity, both to the people of Cottonera and also to those who will choose to spend this New Year’s Eve in Cottonera,” said the Parliamentary Secretary.
The Parliamentary Secretary concluded by saying that as a Government we are committed to continuing to support these activities that continue to take place and provide a better quality of life for residents, opportunities for Maltese artists and above all, unite communities during these festive times.
Chairperson of the Cottonera Foundation, Joe Mizzi, said that in recent weeks the workers within the Foundation have been committed to preparing for this activity that will offer the public a high-level and high-quality spectacle. “Throughout the year, as a Foundation we are instrumental in staging a large number of activities that aim to continue promoting Cottonera, but not only that, we are making sure to help with any project that may be of support to Cottonera. However, this activity, which we are talking about today, is the largest activity that the Cottonera Foundation has staged. This year we have continued to see how we will continue to strengthen it. This is through established singers, excellent presenters who will continue to animate the evening and we have also prepared a wonderful daytime and drone show for the stroke of midnight,” concluded Joe Mizzi.
