A group of six persons currently serving sentences in prison will be travelling to Rome to participate in the Jubilee of Prisoners, an event organised within the framework of the Holy Year celebrations.
The programme includes a religious service, with a special Mass dedicated to persons deprived of their liberty, which will be celebrated tomorrow in Rome. This initiative reflects the rehabilitative and restorative objectives of the correctional system, offering participants an opportunity for spiritual reflection, personal growth and reintegration focused experiences.
The six persons in prison selected for this visit have demonstrated consistently positive behavioural track records during their period of incarceration. Their participation follows a thorough assessment process carried out by the Correctional Services Agency.
Notwithstanding their positive conduct, the Agency wishes to assure the public that all necessary security measures will be fully implemented throughout the duration of the visit. These measures include an adequate and proportionate ratio of correctional officers accompanying the group at all times, as well as the use of electronic tagging to ensure continuous monitoring and compliance with security protocols, and, where applicable, the Court was also asked for its authorisation.
The Correctional Services Agency remains committed to balancing public safety with rehabilitation and reintegration initiatives that support responsible behaviour, accountability and positive change among persons in prison.
