Police arrested two men following a complex investigation into a group involved in an organised crime network connected to the theft of vehicles from across Europe.
Police investigations revealed that stolen vehicles were being brought into Malta with falsified documents from various EU countries, kept locally for a few days and then exported to North Africa and the Middle East.
The two suspects were arrested shortly after arriving in Malta from Pozzallo. They were driving two vehicles that were allegedly stolen and carried falsified documents as well as modified registration numbers.
The arrested suspects, together with others within the same criminal group, had allegedly exported several other stolen vehicles to Libya in the previous months.
They are expected to be brought before the court shortly.
