Parliamentary Secretary for Fisheries, Aquaculture and Animal Rights Alicia Bugeja Said together with Jake Vella’s family announced details of the ‘Paw Walk in Memory of Jake Vella’ event, an event that will be held in memory of Jake Vella, a boy who left a strong impact on the Maltese community through his love for animals and his work to help abandoned animals.
All funds raised during the event will go to the Association for Abandoned Animals (AAA), a sanctuary that was very dear to Jake’s heart. This annual walk will take place on Sunday, December 14 at 10:00 a.m. near the main entrance of Mater Dei Hospital. This event will continue to be an occasion of solidarity and love, where Jake’s family, along with family, friends, and community members, will come together to remember a boy who loved animals so much and who throughout his life, despite the rare disease ROHHAD, was known for his heart of gold, while at the same time raising funds for animals.
Parliamentary Secretary Alicia Bugeja Said praised the initiative, and said that Jake’s memory will live on through this event. “I first met Jake four years ago. A boy who inspired those around him and was always at the forefront of helping animals as much as he could despite the suffering he was going through. During this walk, we will not only be helping animals but we will continue to remember Jake’s beautiful memory at Christmas time.”
Jake’s family thanked everyone for their continued support, and invited the public to join the walk. “We, Jake’s parents, are re-organising the walk around Mater Dei that was so dear to his heart. On 14th December at 10:00 a.m. I appeal to the public to attend this walk so that the legacy that Jake left behind will never be forgotten.”
The public is invited to attend. Dog owners are encouraged to bring their dogs with them during the walk. All funds raised during the event will go to the Association for Abandoned Animals (AAA).
