On the initiative of the Active Ageing and Community Care (AACC), a competition was created among members of the Active Ageing Centres to create the designs for the official Christmas cards 2025. Seniors were invited to express their creativity by submitting original designs for cards that will be used to send Christmas and New Year greetings to various departments, including to the senior members themselves.
With participation from 18 different centres, a total of 68 unique designs were submitted. The selection board had difficulty choosing the best postcards, as the standard was high and the ideas varied. In the end, the top 10 winning designs were selected, which were professionally printed and include the name of the senior artist and the respective centre.
The results of this competition were announced during an event at the Siġġiewi Centre for Active Ageing, attended by the Parliamentary Secretary for Active Ageing, Malcolm Paul Agius Galea, as well as the Permanent Secretary Renzo De Gabriele. During the event, all submitted designs were on display.
Parliamentary Secretary Agius Galea explained how this initiative, entitled “Minn Qalb l-Anzjani”, showcases the talents, skills and creative spirit that are still strongly present among the elderly. He added that initiatives such as these not only enhance the festivities, but also serve as spaces of expression and personal value for the elderly.
In light of the success of this competition, the AACC Department is considering organizing similar editions throughout the year, including for Easter, so that the creative participation of the elderly is continuous and visible.
