Agreement signed to further strengthen support for vulnerable mothers

The Ministry for Social Policy and Children’s Rights has continued to strengthen its assistance and funding to NGOs that help vulnerable people in the community. This follows the extension of a social agreement between the Ministry for Social Affairs and the Suret il-Bniedem Foundation, which runs the Teresa Spinelli residence.

This specific agreement will provide peace of mind for the next three years, in order to manage this residence that welcomes women, some of them with children. This residence not only serves as a shelter, but also provides health services including psychological ones, as well as socio-legal assistance, among others.

For this agreement, €985,500 has been allocated over a three-year period to provide a strong social service that addresses the needs of these people.

“These agreements are clear evidence of how much this Government believes in the potential of everyone. We do not wait until that vulnerable person reaches a state of danger to their life, but we intervene to prevent the consequences that may be caused,” stated Minister Michael Falzon.

Chairperson of Fondazzjoni Suret il-Bniedem, Marique Sciberras, stated that this residence is one of five homes managed by the Foundation.

“Here we make sure that we assist women and mothers with various and complex social problems, and because of which, they have lost everything. Our ultimate goal is to help them find their place in society,” concluded the Chairperson of Fondazzjoni Suret il-Bniedem, Marique Sciberras.
