As part of his Official Visit to Germany, Minister George Vella on Tuesday held lengthy discussions with Minister Frank Walter Steinmeier.
The two Ministers exchanged views on a number of issues on bilateral and regional agendas. Developments in the EU, its immediate neighbourhoods to the South and the East, migration and ongoing preparations for Malta’s Presidency in 2017 were discussed in particular detail.
In his comments right after the meeting, Minister Vella spoke of Germany as a strong partner in the EU and a country of outstanding political and commercial importance for Malta. Relations are steadfast and can be termed excellent on all fronts.
These have been further reinforced through bilateral visits at the highest level of representation. Minister Vella added that Germany’s role in the resolution of crises, such as that of Ukraine, is one that Malta values highly and supports fully.
As part of his official programme, Minister Vella delivered a public lecture at the European Commission Office in Berlin, which focussed on Malta’s foreign policy priorities in the Mediterranean.
